Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X900

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X900 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 900mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X900

The AirTAC SAILB200X900 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, it automatically engages a lock pin to hold the rod securely at the retracted stroke end whenever release air is cut. This guarantees fail-safe load holding on power loss without consuming live pressure. Delivering 15708N of push force at 0.5MPa, this robust unit uses a carbon steel rod and operates at speeds of 30-500 mm/s.

The locker end features a variable air cushion of 28mm, which is shorter than the 50mm cushion on the free end to accommodate the locking mechanism. For position sensing, the extruded aluminum barrel includes sensor grooves compatible with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic switches, though this specific configuration does not include a magnet. Remember that the lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake, and will only engage after the piston stops at the stroke terminal.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X900 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures heavy lifted masses in the retracted position instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops.

build

Heavy Press Retention

Maintains massive clamping force at the stroke end without continuous air consumption during long hold cycles.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Keeps large industrial safety gates firmly retracted and locked until the pneumatic release port is actively pressurized.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X900 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200mm bore when substantial thrust is required, stepping up from the 160mm bore which yields 10053N at 0.5MPa. Select the SAILB variant when the load must be held in the retracted position; if you need to secure the rod at the extended stroke end, the SAILF equivalent is required instead. If your application requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice. Always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock, and never pair this with a fast-exhaust valve. For any safety-critical lifting application, add an independent safety measure alongside the lock. At 900mm of stroke, use a side-load guide to prevent rod bending. Replacement matches require identical bore, stroke, back locker position, PT port threads, and mounting style.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X900 FAQ

At 0.5MPa, it provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At the maximum operating pressure of 1.0MPa, the push force reaches 3204 kgf.

The spring-applied, air-released lock engages a pin into the rod when it reaches the retracted stroke end, holding the load statically without air. It unlocks automatically by supplying air to the release port or via a manual release lever.
