Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X900S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X900S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 900mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X900S

The AirTAC SAILB200X900-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This lock safely holds the rod at the retracted stroke end, maintaining heavy vertical loads without requiring continuous live air pressure. In the 200mm bore class, it generates a substantial 15708N push force at 0.5MPa and 21991N at 0.7MPa.

This model includes a magnetic piston (-S) for precise position sensing with AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic solid-state switches. The carbon steel rod provides high tensile strength for demanding industrial environments. Note that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 28mm, intentionally shorter than the 50mm cushion at the free end to accommodate the locking mechanism.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa15708 N15080 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X900S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Lift Safety Hold

Secures massive lifted platforms in the retracted position during a power loss event, preventing catastrophic drops without relying on live air pressure.

shield

Press Clamping

Holds heavy workpieces firmly against a stop at the end of the stroke while secondary machining or fastening operations are completed safely.

warehouse

Gate and Door Control

Locks large industrial safety gates in the closed retracted position, keeping the barrier secure until the air-release port is actively pressurized.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X900S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200mm bore when an application demands immense thrust alongside fail-safe load holding; if you need less force, stepping down to a 160mm bore yields 10053N push at 0.5MPa. Select the SAILB configuration to secure the load at the retracted rod-in position, whereas SAILF holds the extended rod-out position. If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end hold, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice instead.

Because this model features a 900mm stroke, external guide rails are strongly recommended to prevent excessive side-loading on the rod. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For any human-safety critical lifting application, add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement units must match the 200mm bore, 900mm stroke, PT 3/4 port threads, back locker position, and -S magnet.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X900S FAQ

At 0.5MPa, this 200mm bore cylinder provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 21991N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It holds statically after stopping and is released automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via a lever.
