Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X600

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X600 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø50mm bore, 600mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X600

The AirTAC SAILB50X600 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because it is a SAILB variant, the spring-applied, air-released lock engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding the rod in without requiring continuous live air pressure. With a 50 mm bore, it delivers 982 N of push force and 825 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, making it well-suited for moderate vertical load-holding tasks.

This model uses a carbon steel rod and PT tapered port threads. The variable air cushion at the locker end is 20 mm, intentionally shorter than the 30 mm cushion at the free end to accommodate the locking hardware. The cylinder operates at speeds of 30-800 mm/s and, since no magnet is specified, does not carry position sensors.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X600 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Hold

Maintains a raised platform securely at the retracted stroke end during a power loss, preventing gravity-driven drops.

shield

Safety Gate Lock

Keeps a heavy safety gate closed and locked in the retracted position until an air signal releases the mechanism.

conveyor_belt

Pallet Stopper

Holds a stopped pallet firmly in place at the end of the stroke without consuming continuous pneumatic energy.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X600 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 50 mm bore if your application requires roughly 982 N of thrust at 0.5 MPa; stepping down to a 40 mm bore reduces thrust to 628 N, while upgrading to a 63 mm bore increases it to 1559 N. Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be safely held at the retracted rod-in position. If your mechanism requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice instead. Keep in mind the SAIL lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod.

For a 600 mm stroke, using a side-load guide is highly recommended to prevent rod bending and premature seal wear. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves with this lock cylinder; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. If human safety depends on the load remaining suspended, add an independent safety measure. Replacement matches require a 50 mm bore, 600 mm stroke, back locker position, PT port thread, and standard carbon steel rod.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X600 FAQ

At an operating pressure of 0.5 MPa, this 50 mm bore cylinder provides 982 N of push force and 825 N of pull force. At the maximum pressure of 1.0 MPa, it delivers a maximum thrust of 200 kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover. It engages statically only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, holding the load without live pressure. It is unlocked automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via the lever, but it cannot clamp at a mid-stroke position.
