Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X75S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X75S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø50mm bore, 75mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X75S

The AirTAC SAILB50X75-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because it is a SAILB variant, the spring-applied, air-released lock engages only when the piston reaches the fully retracted stroke end. In this position, the rod is held securely without requiring live air pressure. Driven by a 1/4 PT port, the 50mm bore generates 982N of push force and 825N of pull force at 0.5MPa, making it highly effective for medium-duty holding tasks.

This model includes a magnetic piston (-S) for position sensing with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic switches. A notable design detail is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 20mm, which is shorter than the 30mm cushion on the free end. Remember that this cushion solely decelerates the stroke; the lock itself provides the static holding power. The standard carbon steel rod offers robust durability for industrial applications.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X75S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Hold

Secures elevated loads in the retracted position during power loss, preventing sudden drops.

conveyor_belt

Pallet Stopper

Locks a stopper pin in the retracted stroke end to hold pallets securely on a conveyor line.

shield

Safety Gate Lock

Maintains a closed safety gate by holding the rod in the retracted end without continuous air supply.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X75S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 50mm bore when a task requires 982N of push force at 0.5MPa, or step down to a 40mm bore (628N push) for lighter loads. Choose this SAILB configuration to hold the load in the retracted position; if your application requires holding at the extended rod-out position, opt for the SAILF variant instead. Should you need to secure a load at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

The lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Avoid using a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required because back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock. If human safety depends on the suspended load, add an independent safety measure. Replacement matches require bore 50, stroke 75, back locker, PT port, and the -S magnet.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X75S FAQ

At 0.5MPa, the 50mm bore provides 982N of push force and 825N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 1374N.

The spring-applied, air-released lock engages statically at the retracted stroke end. It holds the load without live pressure, and you can unlock it automatically via air release or manually. It does not clamp at mid-stroke.
