Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X1000

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X1000 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 1000mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X1000

The AirTAC SAILB63X1000 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This lock engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, ensuring your load is securely held without relying on live pressure. Delivering 1559N of push thrust and 1402N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, it provides robust actuation for heavy-duty tasks. The carbon steel rod and PT tapered port threads ensure durable, leak-free connections.

Unlike a plain SAI cylinder, this SAIL variant features a shorter 21mm variable air cushion at the locker end compared to 30mm on the free end, accommodating the internal locking mechanism. The lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake, meaning it secures the rod only after the cylinder has stopped moving. For position detection, you can specify a magnet (-S) to integrate AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic solid-state sensors into the dual-side barrel grooves.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X1000 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Secures a lifted vertical load in the retracted position instantly if air pressure drops, preventing sudden falls on power loss.

conveyor_belt

Pallet Stopper Gate

Holds a heavy pallet stopper in the retracted end position securely without consuming continuous air supply energy.

build

Press Clamp Hold

Maintains a clamped workpiece firmly at the retracted stroke end during machine downtime or emergency stops.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X1000 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63mm bore when an application requires 1559N of thrust at 0.5 MPa and guaranteed load holding at the retracted end; if you need less force, a 50mm bore offers 982N, while stepping up to an 80mm bore provides 2513N. Because this model features a 1000mm stroke, which exceeds the 1500mm standard maximum for this bore size, it is classified as a non-standard stroke and requires careful attention to side-load forces; using a guide rail to prevent rod bending is highly recommended. Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be held in the retracted position, whereas a SAILF holds the extended end.

If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, you must use the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead. For the lock to function safely, never use a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. If human safety depends on the load remaining retracted, add an independent mechanical safety measure as a backup. Replacement matches require verifying the 63mm bore, 1000mm stroke, back locker position, 3/8 port, PT thread, and mounting style.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X1000 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, the SAILB63X1000 provides 1559N of push thrust and 1402N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push thrust increases to 2182N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only at the retracted stroke end to hold the load statically without live pressure. It unlocks automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via a lever, but it does not clamp at mid-stroke.
