Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X150

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X150 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 150mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X150

The AirTAC SAILB63X150 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because this is a SAILB configuration, a spring-applied, air-released lock engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding the rod in place without requiring continuous live air pressure. It delivers a robust 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force at 0.5MPa, making it well-suited for moderate-load holding tasks.

The lock is strictly a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, rather than a dynamic brake for a moving rod. To manage deceleration, the variable air cushion at the locker end is notably shorter at 21mm compared to the 30mm cushion length on the free end. For position sensing, adding a -S magnet enables compatibility with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic solid-state sensors.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X150 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Holding

Secures elevated loads in the retracted position instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops on lifting machinery.

lock

Clamp and Secure

Maintains solid clamping force at the retracted stroke end without consuming compressed air during the holding phase.

shield

Gate Safety Hold

Keeps heavy safety gates firmly closed at the stroke terminal during power outages until release air is restored.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X150 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 63mm bore when a 50mm bore falls short of the required 982N push force at 0.5MPa, or step down to a 50mm unit if your load is lighter. Choose this SAILB model when the load must be secured in the retracted position; select a SAILF variant instead if the extended stroke end requires holding. If your application demands clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke terminal, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

For safe operation, avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. The standard carbon steel rod and PT tapered port threads provide durable service, but always add an independent mechanical safety measure if human safety depends on the load remaining suspended. Ensure your replacement matches the 63mm bore, 150mm stroke, back locker position, and desired mounting style.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X150 FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, this 63mm bore cylinder generates 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 2182N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end. It provides a static hold after the rod stops, not a dynamic brake, and can be unlocked automatically via air or manually via a lever.
