Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X150S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X150S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 150mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X150S

The AirTAC SAILB63X150-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, it automatically engages a lock pin to hold the rod securely at the retracted stroke end whenever the release air is cut. This power-loss safety feature distinguishes it from a standard SAI cylinder, providing reliable load holding without requiring live pressure. The bore delivers 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force at 0.5 MPa.

This model includes a piston magnet for position sensing via CMSE reed and DMSE electronic switches. The variable air cushion at the locker end is 21mm, which is intentionally shorter than the 30mm cushion at the free end to accommodate the locking mechanism. The carbon steel rod features an M16x1.5 thread, and fluid supply connects via a 3/8 PT port.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X150S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds a lifted load securely in the retracted position during a power loss, preventing sudden drops.

conveyor_belt

Pallet Stopper

Locks a stopper blade in the up position at the stroke end to halt pallets without continuous air supply.

shield

Safety Gate Hold

Maintains a guard gate closed by locking the rod at the retracted terminal until an air signal releases it.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X150S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63mm bore when your application requires 1559N thrust at 0.5MPa; if you need less force, step down to the 50mm bore offering 982N, or step up to the 80mm bore providing 2513N for heavier loads. Select this SAILB configuration when the load must be secured in the retracted position; choose a SAILF variant instead if the extended stroke end requires holding. If your workflow demands clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke terminal, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

Remember that this lock provides a static hold after the cylinder stops, functioning neither as a dynamic brake for moving rods nor as a mid-stroke clamp. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; utilize an independent-exhaust solenoid valve instead. For safety-critical suspended loads, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement matching requires a 63mm bore, 150mm stroke, back locker position, 3/8 PT port, and the -S magnet.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X150S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 63mm bore cylinder provides 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0 MPa pressure, it delivers a maximum thrust of 318 kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold, not a dynamic brake. Unlocking occurs automatically by supplying release air or manually via the release lever.
