Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X600

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X600 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 600mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X600

The AirTAC SAILB63X600 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air automatically drives a lock pin into the 20mm carbon steel rod, securely holding the load at the retracted stroke end without requiring continuous live pressure. You can unlock it by supplying air to the release port or by using the manual override lever.

This 63mm bore unit generates 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force at 0.5MPa. To accommodate the locking hardware, the variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter at 21mm compared to the 30mm cushion on the free end. The barrel is extruded aluminum with sensor grooves on both sides, ready for CMSE reed or DMSE solid-state sensors if a magnet is specified later.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X600 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Power-Off Hold

Secures elevated loads at the retracted stroke end instantly when air pressure drops, preventing sudden crashes in lifting systems.

conveyor_belt

Clamp and Hold Station

Holds a workpiece firmly at the rod-in position during processing, maintaining clamp force without consuming continuous air.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Keeps heavy access gates and safety doors locked shut at the retracted terminal until the release air is actively supplied.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X600 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63mm bore when 50mm (982N push at 0.5MPa) is too weak or 80mm (2513N) is oversized for your mounting footprint. Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be held at the rod-in retracted position; choose SAILF instead if you need to secure the load at the extended rod-out end. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end static hold, use the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

For a 600mm stroke, adding external guide rails is recommended to prevent excessive side-load wear on the rod seals. Remember that this lock engages only after the cylinder stops; it is not a dynamic brake. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock—use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. If human safety depends on the load staying up, add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement requires matching the 63mm bore, 600mm stroke, back locker position, PT port threads, and your mounting style.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X600 FAQ

At 0.5MPa, the 63mm bore provides 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 2182N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, holding the rod securely at the retracted stroke end without live pressure. It unlocks automatically via air supply or manually via a lever, but it cannot hold at mid-stroke.
