Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X700S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X700S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 700mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X700S

The AirTAC SAILB63X700-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This mechanism secures the rod specifically at the retracted stroke end, retaining the load without consuming live air pressure. Equipped with a magnetic piston (-S) for position feedback, it pairs directly with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic solid-state sensors.

In the 63 mm bore class, this unit generates 1559 N of push thrust and 1402 N of pull thrust at 0.5 MPa, scaling up to 2805 N push at 0.9 MPa. The standard carbon steel rod handles off-center loading effectively, while the extruded aluminum barrel incorporates sensor grooves on both sides. Note that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 21 mm, intentionally shorter than the 30 mm cushion on the free end to accommodate the locking hardware.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X700S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures elevated loads in the retracted position automatically during a power loss, preventing sudden drops without needing continuous air pressure.

conveyor_belt

Long-Stroke Conveyor Stops

Holds a 700 mm extended stop gate firmly retracted during product transit, using the mechanical lock to maintain clearance without wasting energy.

shield

Safety Gate Retraction

Keeps heavy machine safety gates pulled back and locked open at the stroke end until the operator actively supplies release air to disengage the pin.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X700S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63 mm bore when an application requires robust holding power, stepping up from the 50 mm bore (which provides 825 N pull at 0.5 MPa) or stepping down from the 80 mm bore (2268 N pull at 0.5 MPa) to optimize air consumption. Select the SAILB back-lock configuration when the load must be secured in the retracted position; choose a SAILF front-lock variant if the extended position requires holding. If the sequence demands clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct solution.

Because the stroke is 700 mm, external guide rails are strongly recommended to prevent excessive side-load wear on the rod seals. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the piston stops, not a dynamic brake for moving rods. Never use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder; back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock, so an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. For human-safety lifting applications, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement units must match the 63 mm bore, 700 mm stroke, PT tapered port threads, and the -S magnet option.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X700S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, the 63 mm bore provides 1559 N of push thrust and 1402 N of pull thrust. At 0.9 MPa, the push thrust increases to 2805 N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover. It engages to hold the rod statically at the retracted stroke end only. It unlocks automatically via air supply to the release port or manually via a lever, but it does not clamp at mid-stroke.
