Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X75

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X75 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 75mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X75

The AirTAC SAILB63X75 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, it automatically secures the rod at the retracted stroke end whenever release air is cut, ensuring your load stays put without relying on live pressure. In the 63mm bore class, this unit generates a 1559N push force at 0.5MPa and 2182N at 0.7MPa, making it well-suited for medium-duty holding tasks.

The cylinder features a carbon steel rod and PT tapered port threads. A key design detail is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 21mm, which is shorter than the 30mm cushion on the free end. Remember that this cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke termination; it is the mechanical lock that actually holds the load. For position sensing, adding a -S magnet enables the use of AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE solid-state sensors.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Vertical Load Holding

Secures lifted loads in the retracted position during a power loss, preventing sudden drops.

Clamp and Hold

Maintains gripping force on a workpiece at the end of the stroke without consuming continuous air.

Safety Gate Hold

Keeps safety barriers or gates locked in the retracted position until released by air pressure.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X75 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63mm bore when you need the 1559N thrust at 0.5MPa; if your application requires less force, stepping down to a 50mm bore yields 982N, while moving up to an 80mm bore provides 2513N. Select the SAILB configuration specifically because you need the rod held securely in the retracted position. If your mechanism requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than at the stroke end, you must select a BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

Always remember this lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Valve selection is critical: never use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. If human safety depends on the load remaining retracted, add an independent safety measure. To replace this unit, match the 63mm bore, 75mm stroke, back locker position, PT threads, and your required mounting style.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X75 FAQ

At 0.5MPa, the 63mm bore provides a 1559N push force and a 1402N pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 2182N.

It uses a spring-applied, air-released mechanism in the back cover that holds the rod statically at the retracted stroke end. You can unlock it automatically by supplying air to the release port or by using the manual release lever.
