Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X75S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X75S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 75mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X75S

The AirTAC SAILB63X75-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. It delivers 1559N of push force at 0.5MPa and securely holds the rod at the retracted stroke end. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air drives a pin into the carbon steel rod, maintaining the load safely without consuming live pressure. Unlocking is handled automatically via air supply or manually via the release lever.

This magnetic variant supports AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors for precise end-position detection. A key design trait is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter (21mm) than the free end (30mm). The cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke termination; the mechanical lock is the true static holding device, not the cushion.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa1559 N1402 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X75S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds a lifted load in the retracted position automatically during a power loss event, preventing sudden drops.

lock

Clamp and Hold

Secures a workpiece at the rod-in stroke end without requiring continuous air pressure, saving energy.

shield

Gate and Guard Locking

Keeps safety gates and heavy guards firmly closed in the retracted state until the release air is actively supplied.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X75S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63mm bore when a 50mm bore (982N push at 0.5MPa) lacks the thrust for your vertical lift, but an 80mm bore (2513N push at 0.5MPa) is physically oversized. Select the SAILB back-locker configuration to hold loads in the rod-in position; if your application requires holding at the extended rod-out position, pick the SAILF front-locker variant instead. For applications needing mid-stroke clamping at any arbitrary point, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice over this stroke-end-only model.

When integrating this cylinder, avoid fast-exhaust valves; use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve to prevent back-pressure on the locker side from accidentally releasing the pin. For safety-critical suspended loads, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement matching requires a 63mm bore, 75mm stroke, back locker position, 3/8 PT port, standard mounting (Basic, FA, FB, TC, etc.), and the -S magnet.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X75S FAQ

At 0.5MPa, this 63mm bore cylinder provides 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 2182N.

The spring-applied, air-released lock engages only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold, not a dynamic brake, and unlocks via air supply or a manual lever.
