Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X800

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X800 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 800mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X800

The AirTAC SAILB63X800 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock built into the back cover. This lock engages automatically to hold the rod securely at the retracted stroke end whenever the release air is cut, delivering a static pull force of 1402N at 0.5MPa without requiring continuous live pressure. The extruded aluminum barrel includes sensor grooves on both sides for mounting position switches.

Because the lock occupies the rear end cap, the variable air cushion at the locker end is notably shorter at 21mm compared to the 30mm cushion on the free end. The cylinder operates at speeds of 30-800mm/s, uses a 3/8 PT port, and offers both automatic air release and a manual release lever for operational flexibility.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X800 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds a raised load securely at the retracted stroke end during a compressed air power loss, preventing sudden drops on lifting machinery.

conveyor_belt

Conveyor Hold

Locks a diverter or gate in the retracted position without consuming continuous air pressure, ensuring stable product flow control.

Clamp and Hold

Maintains a clamped retracted state on machining fixtures during air supply interruptions, keeping workpieces safely secured.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X800 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63mm bore when a 50mm bore providing 825N pull at 0.5MPa is insufficient, but you want to avoid the larger 80mm unit's 2268N pull. Select this SAILB configuration specifically when the load must be held at the rod-in retracted position; for holding at the extended rod-out position, the SAILF variant is required instead. If your application requires clamping the rod at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than at the stroke end, the AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

At an 800mm stroke, lateral side loads are significant; use a dedicated external guide rail to prevent rod binding and premature seal wear. Remember that this lock is a static holding device that engages after the piston stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For safety-critical lifting applications, add an independent mechanical safety measure as well. Replacement parts must match the 63mm bore, 800mm stroke, back locker position, 3/8 PT port, and standard carbon steel rod.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X800 FAQ

The 63mm bore generates a push force of 1559N and a pull force of 1402N at 0.5MPa. At the maximum operating pressure of 1.0MPa, it delivers a maximum push force of 318kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold after the rod stops, not a dynamic brake, and is released by supplying air to the release port or using the manual lever.
