The AirTAC SAILB63X80-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, it safely holds the rod at the retracted stroke end without requiring continuous live pressure. Delivering 1559N of push thrust at 0.5MPa, this carbon-rod unit is designed for secure vertical load holding.

The integrated lock engages statically after the piston stops, rather than acting as a dynamic brake mid-stroke. Notably, the variable air cushion at the locker end is 21mm, which is shorter than the 30mm cushion on the free end. Equipped with a magnet, it supports CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors for precise position verification.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be held at the retracted rod-in position; choose SAILF for holding at the extended end. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead. For replacements, verify the 80mm stroke, 3/8 PT port, and your required mounting style. Always avoid fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock.
