Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X1000S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X1000S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 1000mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X1000S

The AirTAC SAILB80X1000-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. A spring-applied, air-released lock pin engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding the load without live pressure. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 2513 N of push force and 2268 N of pull force, utilizing a 25 mm carbon steel rod with an M20x1.5 thread. The -S magnet enables position detection with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors.

Because the lock occupies the back cover, the variable air cushion on that locker end is shorter at 22.5 mm compared to the 36 mm cushion on the free end. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops; it is not a dynamic brake. To unlock, supply air to the release port for automatic operation or use the manual release lever.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X1000S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Secures elevated loads at the retracted stroke end instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops on lifting machinery.

conveyor_belt

Conveyor Holdback

Locks a conveyor gate or diverter in the retracted home position during power loss, ensuring the line remains in a safe state.

precision_manufacturing

Clamp and Hold

Maintains a static holding force on a manufacturing fixture at the stroke end without consuming continuous air pressure.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X1000S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 80 mm bore when the 63 mm class (1402 N pull at 0.5 MPa) is insufficient, but the 100 mm class (3681 N pull) is oversized. This SAILB variant holds the load at the retracted stroke end; select a SAILF model if your application requires the load to be held at the extended rod-out position. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end hold, use the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

For safe operation, avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. The 1000 mm stroke exceeds the 1500 mm maximum standard limit for this bore, classifying it as a non-standard stroke. At this extended length, side-load sensitivity increases significantly, so external guide rails are strongly recommended to prevent rod binding. Always add an independent mechanical safety measure if human safety depends on the load staying elevated. Porting is PT tapered thread.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X1000S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, the push force is 2513 N and the pull force is 2268 N. At 0.7 MPa, the push force is 3518 N. The maximum operating pressure is 1.0 MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, holding the rod only at the retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the cylinder stops and does not brake a moving rod. Unlocking is automatic via air release or manual via the lever.
