Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X100S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X100S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 100mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X100S

The AirTAC SAILB80X100-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. Because the lock engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, it securely holds the rod-in position without requiring live air pressure. Equipped with a magnet, it integrates seamlessly with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors for precise end-position detection.

Delivering a pull force of 2268 N at 0.5 MPa, this bore 80 unit utilizes a carbon steel rod and PT tapered port threads. The variable air cushion decelerates the piston near the stroke terminals, but note the locker-end cushion is physically shorter (22.5 mm) than the free end (36 mm). The lock itself provides the static hold, while the cushion solely manages impact deceleration.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X100S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Holding

Secures elevated loads in the retracted position instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops on vertical lifting fixtures.

shield

Power Failure Safety

Maintains a safe rod-in state during plant power outages or emergency stops, keeping guarded doors and heavy gates firmly closed.

factory

End-of-Stroke Clamping

Locks a workpiece firmly at the retracted terminal position for secondary processing, eliminating the need for continuous air supply.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X100S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this SAILB model when your application requires a reliable static hold specifically at the retracted stroke end. If your load demands holding at the extended rod-out position, select the SAILF variant instead. For applications requiring mid-stroke clamping at any arbitrary position, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice, as the SAIL lock only engages at the stroke terminal. To scale force, a bore 63 offers 1402 N pull at 0.5 MPa, while a bore 100 provides 3681 N.

Ensure your pneumatic circuit avoids fast-exhaust valves; use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve instead, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. Always add an independent mechanical safety measure if human safety depends on the suspended load. Replacement specifications must match the 80 mm bore, 100 mm stroke, back locker position, PT ports, and the -S magnet option.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X100S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, the bore 80 cylinder provides a push force of 2513 N and a pull force of 2268 N. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 3518 N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging statically only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It is unlocked automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via a lever, but it cannot hold the rod at a mid-stroke position.
