Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X175S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X175S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 175mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X175S

The AirTAC SAILB80X175-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air automatically drives a lock pin into the 25mm carbon steel rod, securely holding the load at the retracted stroke end without requiring live pressure. In this configuration, the bore generates 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, making it well-suited for heavy vertical lifting tasks.

This model includes a magnetic piston (-S) for position detection using AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic solid-state sensors. A notable design trait is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 22.5mm, which is intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion on the free end. Remember that the cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke termination; the mechanical lock is the sole device providing static load holding.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa2513 N2268 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X175S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds heavy raised platforms securely at the retracted stroke end during a power loss, preventing sudden gravity-driven drops.

precision_manufacturing

Clamp and Hold

Maintains high-force clamping pressure on a workpiece at the end of the stroke without continuously consuming compressed air.

shield

Gate and Door Security

Locks heavy safety gates or machine doors in the closed position, requiring an active air signal to unlock and open.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X175S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 80mm bore when a 63mm cylinder (offering 1559N push at 0.5 MPa) lacks the thrust for your vertical load, or step down to a 50mm bore (982N) if the mass is lighter. Select the SAILB configuration specifically when the load must be secured in the retracted position; choose a SAILF variant if you need the rod held extended. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end hold, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

When integrating this cylinder, strictly avoid using a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; instead, specify an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. The lock functions as a static holding brake that engages after the rod stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving load. For safety-critical applications where human safety depends on the load remaining suspended, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. For this 175mm stroke, ensure adequate side-load protection by using a non-rotating guide or external linear bearings. Replacement requires matching the 80mm bore, 175mm stroke, back locker position, 3/8 PT port threads, and the -S magnet.

Quick checklist

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X175S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, this 80mm bore cylinder provides 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At the maximum operating pressure of 1.0 MPa, it delivers a maximum push force of 513 kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold after the cylinder stops and is not a dynamic brake; unlocking requires supplying air to the release port or using the manual release lever.
