Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X200

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X200 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 200mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X200

The AirTAC SAILB80X200 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. Because the lock engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, it securely holds the rod inside the barrel without requiring continuous live air pressure. In this 80mm bore class, the cylinder generates a push force of 2513N and a pull force of 2268N at a 0.5 MPa operating pressure.

The lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod, meaning it engages only after the cylinder has come to a complete stop. To manage impact deceleration, the variable air cushion at the locker end is 22.5mm, intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion found at the free end. The carbon steel rod utilizes an M20x1.5 thread, and the barrel features dual sensor grooves compatible with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors when a magnet is specified.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X200 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Maintains the retracted position of elevated loads during power loss or air pressure drops, preventing sudden falls on lifting assemblies.

lock

End-of-Stroke Clamping

Secures a workpiece or mechanism firmly at the retracted terminal position without consuming continuous pneumatic energy.

shield

Safety Gate Hold

Keeps heavy safety gates or machine guards locked in the closed position until the release air is actively supplied.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X200 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 80mm bore if your application requires the 2513N thrust at 0.5 MPa, or step down to a 63mm bore providing 1559N if the load is lighter. Choose the SAILB configuration when the load must be safely held at the retracted rod-in position, whereas a SAILF variant would hold at the extended rod-out position. If your system requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice instead.

For safe operation, never use a fast-exhaust valve with this lock cylinder; always utilize an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. The unit features a 3/8 PT port and supports mountings including Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, and TCM2. If human safety depends on the load staying retracted, always add an independent mechanical safety measure alongside the lock.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X200 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, the 80mm bore provides a push force of 2513N and a pull force of 2268N. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 3518N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging statically only after the piston reaches the retracted stroke end. It is unlocked automatically by supplying air to the release port or by using the manual release lever.
