Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X300S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X300S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 300mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X300S

The AirTAC SAILB80X300-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock engages at the retracted stroke end, it securely holds the rod-in position without requiring continuous live air pressure. Fitted with a carbon steel rod and a magnetic piston, this model supports position sensing via AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic switches.

Providing 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, it handles heavy vertical loads. The integrated variable air cushion decelerates the piston near the stroke terminals, though the cushion length at the locker end is shorter (22.5mm) than the free end (36mm). The lock itself provides the static holding force after the cylinder stops, functioning as a power-failure safety device rather than a dynamic brake.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X300S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Secures elevated vertical loads in the retracted position instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops in lifting rigs.

shield

Clamp and Hold

Maintains solid clamping force at the rod-in stroke end during power interruptions, ensuring workpieces stay fixed without live pressure.

lock

Gate and Guard Locking

Keeps heavy safety gates and machine guards firmly locked in the closed position until the air-release port is actively pressurized.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X300S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 80mm bore when a 63mm cylinder (1402N pull at 0.5 MPa) lacks the capacity to lift and hold your load, but a 100mm bore (3681N pull) would be excessive overkill. Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be secured in the retracted rod-in position; opt for SAILF if the extended rod-out end requires holding. If your application demands clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice instead.

For a 300mm stroke, guiding the load is critical to prevent excessive side-loading on the carbon steel rod and premature seal wear. Ensure you use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve rather than a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the spring lock. Always add an independent mechanical safety measure if human safety depends on the load remaining elevated. Replacement matches require an 80mm bore, 300mm stroke, back locker, PT tapered ports, and the -S magnet option.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X300S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 80mm bore cylinder provides 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 3518N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging statically only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It unlocks automatically via air pressure or manually via a lever, but it cannot hold the rod at a mid-stroke position.
