Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X350

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X350 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 350mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X350

The AirTAC SAILB80X350 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This lock engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding a load without requiring continuous live air pressure. With a robust 25mm carbon steel rod, it provides a push force of 2513N and a pull force of 2268N at 0.5 MPa.

To release the locked rod, simply supply air to the dedicated release port for automatic unlocking, or use the manual release lever. Note that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 22.5mm, intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion on the free end, to accommodate the locking mechanism. The cylinder operates at speeds between 30 and 800 mm/s and uses PT tapered ports.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X350 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Holding

Secures a lifted vertical load in the fully retracted position during a power loss, preventing sudden drops without needing continuous air pressure.

conveyor_belt

Conveyor Stopper

Holds a retracted stopper arm firmly in place to block items on a line, releasing only when the release port is pressurized.

shield

Safety Gate Lock

Keeps a heavy machine safety gate locked closed at the rod-in end until the control system actively supplies unlock air.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X350 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 80mm bore when an application demands substantial load-holding at the rod-in position; if less force is needed, a 63mm bore provides 1559N push at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to a 100mm bore yields 3927N. Select SAILB to hold the retracted end, or SAILF if the extended end must be secured. If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end hold, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

For safe operation, never use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. Because the 350mm stroke increases the lever arm on the rod, ensure external guides are used to prevent excessive side loading. This lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake, so add independent safety measures if human safety depends on the suspended load. Replacement parts must match the 80mm bore, 350mm stroke, back locker position, PT ports, and standard carbon steel rod.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X350 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, the 80mm bore provides a push force of 2513N and a pull force of 2268N. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 3518N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the rod reaches the retracted stroke end. It unlocks automatically via air pressure to the release port or manually via a lever, but it cannot hold the rod at a mid-stroke position.
