Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X350S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X350S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 350mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X350S

The AirTAC SAILB80X350-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in its back cover. This mechanism engages a lock pin to secure the rod at the fully retracted stroke end, ensuring your load remains held without relying on live air pressure. Delivering 2513N of push force at 0.5 MPa, it features a carbon steel rod and a built-in magnet (-S) compatible with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors.

Unlike a standard SAI cylinder, this model provides true power-loss safety, though it functions strictly as a static holding brake at stroke end, not a dynamic mid-stroke clamp. To accommodate the locking hardware, the variable air cushion at the locker end is shortened to 22.5mm, compared to 36mm on the free end. The fluid port is PT tapered, and the cylinder operates at speeds between 30-800 mm/s.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X350S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures elevated loads in the retracted position during a power loss, preventing sudden drops on lifting jigs.

lock

End-of-Stroke Clamping

Holds a workpiece firmly at the retracted terminal without consuming continuous air pressure.

shield

Safety Gate Interlock

Keeps machine safety gates firmly pulled back and locked open until the release air is actively supplied.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X350S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 80mm bore when an application requires 2513N push force at 0.5 MPa, stepping up from a 63mm bore (1559N) or down from a 100mm bore (3927N). Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be secured in the retracted position; if you need to hold the extended rod-out position instead, choose the SAILF variant. For applications requiring the load to be clamped at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Because the stroke is 350mm, use external guide rails to prevent excessive side-loading on the rod. Remember that the lock is a static device that engages after the cylinder stops; it will not brake a moving rod. Valve selection is critical: do not use a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock—always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. If human safety depends on the load staying retracted, add an independent mechanical safety measure as well. Replacement units must match the 80mm bore, 350mm stroke, back locker position, PT ports, and -S magnet.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X350S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 80mm bore cylinder provides 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 3518N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod only at the fully retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the piston stops and is released by supplying air to the release port or by using the manual release lever.
