The AirTAC SAILB80X450-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Unlike a plain SAI cylinder, this model retains the load without live pressure, though the variable air cushion at the locker end is intentionally shorter (22.5mm) than the free end (36mm) to house the lock mechanism. The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.
The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Step down to a 63mm bore (2182N push at 0.7MPa) if your load is lighter, or move up to a 100mm bore (5497N push at 0.7MPa) for higher thrust. Choose this SAILB configuration when you need the load held at the retracted position; select a SAILF variant if the extended end must be secured. If your application requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point, use a BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.
For safe operation, never use a fast-exhaust valve with this lock cylinder, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. At 450mm stroke, use a side-load guide to prevent rod bending. To unlock, supply air to the release port or use the manual override. Always add an independent safety measure if human safety depends on the load staying up.
