Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X700S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X700S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 700mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X700S

The AirTAC SAILB80X700-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a mechanical lock in the back cover, designed to hold the rod securely at the retracted stroke end. It delivers 3518N of push force and 2268N of pull force at 0.7 MPa, utilizing a 25mm carbon steel rod. Because this is an -S variant, it includes a magnet for direct compatibility with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic solid-state sensors.

The integrated lock is spring-applied and air-released: removing the release air drives a pin into the rod, maintaining the load without consuming live pressure, while supplying air to the release port unlocks it automatically. A manual release lever is also provided. Note that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 22.5mm, intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion on the free end to accommodate the locking mechanism.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X700S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures elevated loads in the retracted position automatically upon air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops on lifting fixtures.

conveyor_belt

Conveyor Lift Stops

Holds a diverter or gate assembly firmly in the retracted stroke end during power-off periods without requiring continuous air supply.

precision_manufacturing

Clamp and Hold

Maintains a retracted tooling position safely on machining lines, engaging only after the piston fully reaches the back cover terminal.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X700S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 80mm bore when an application requires more force than the 63mm class (1559N push at 0.5 MPa) but less bulk than the 100mm class (3927N push at 0.5 MPa). Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be secured in the retracted position; choose SAILF instead if the extended rod-out position requires holding. If the mechanism requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

The lock engages only after the piston stops at the retracted terminal, functioning as a static holding device rather than a dynamic brake for a moving rod. To ensure reliable operation, never use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder; back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock, so an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. Furthermore, the 700mm stroke necessitates external guide rails to prevent excessive side-loading on the rod. For human-safety critical lifting applications, always add an independent mechanical safety measure beyond the pneumatic lock. Replacement units must match the 80mm bore, 700mm stroke, PT 3/8 port threads, back locker position, and -S magnet specification.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X700S FAQ

At 0.7 MPa operating pressure, this 80mm bore cylinder provides 3518N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At 0.5 MPa, the push force is 2513N and the pull force is 2268N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, holding the rod only at the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It engages statically after the cylinder stops and is released automatically via air pressure or manually via a lever. It does not clamp at mid-stroke.
