Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X75

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X75 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 75mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X75

The AirTAC SAILB80X75 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock built into the back cover. This lock engages automatically to hold the rod securely at the retracted stroke end whenever release air is cut, maintaining the load without live pressure. Delivering 2513N of push force at 0.5MPa, it is dimensionally interchangeable per ISO 15552 mounting interfaces while adding critical power-failure safety.

The locker end features a shorter variable air cushion of 22.5mm compared to the 36mm cushion on the free end, specifically accommodating the lock mechanism. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, rather than a dynamic brake for a moving rod. For position feedback, the barrel includes sensor grooves compatible with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic solid-state switches, though this specific SKU is configured without a magnet.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X75 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures elevated loads at the retracted stroke end during power loss, preventing gravity-driven drops in lifting equipment.

shield

Safety Gate Lock

Holds safety barriers and heavy gates firmly closed at the retracted position without relying on continuous air pressure.

factory

Clamp and Hold

Maintains clamping force on heavy workpieces at the stroke end, ensuring stability during machining operations.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X75 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Step down to a 63mm bore if 1559N of push force at 0.5MPa is sufficient, or step up to a 100mm bore for 3927N if your load requires greater thrust. Choose this SAILB configuration when the load must be held at the retracted position; select SAILF instead if the extended stroke end requires holding. If your application needs to lock at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Remember that the lock holds statically at the stroke end and does not stop a moving rod. Avoid using a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve instead. For safety-critical loads that must stay up during a complete power loss, add an independent secondary safety measure. Replacement parts require matching the 80mm bore, 75mm stroke, PT tapered port, back locker position, and the full mounting set including Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, and TCM2.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X75 FAQ

At 0.5MPa, the SAILB80X75 provides 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 3518N, and it reaches a maximum push force of 4523N at 0.9MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only at the retracted stroke end to hold the load statically without live pressure. To unlock, supply air to the release port for automatic release, or use the manual release lever.
