Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X75S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X75S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 75mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X75S

The AirTAC SAILB80X75-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air drives a pin into the carbon steel rod, securely holding the load at the retracted stroke end without consuming live pressure. Supplying air to the release port unlocks it automatically, or you can use the manual release lever.

Delivering 2513N of push force at 0.5MPa, this bore 80 unit features a 3/8 PT port and a 25mm rod. It includes position sensing via its -S magnet, which is fully compatible with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic solid-state switches. Note that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 22.5mm, intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion on the free end to accommodate the locking mechanism.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa2513 N2268 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X75S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds a raised load securely in the retracted position if air pressure drops, preventing sudden crashes in lifting fixtures.

shield

Machine Guard Hold

Keeps a safety gate or guard locked closed at the rod-in stroke end until the release air is actively supplied.

precision_manufacturing

Clamp and Dwell

Maintains clamping force on a part at the end of the stroke without continuously consuming compressed air.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X75S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this SAILB80X75-S when a pneumatic actuator must maintain a retracted position during a power loss. If your application requires less force, the bore 63 neighbor provides 1559N at 0.5MPa; if you need more, the bore 100 yields 3927N. Select SAILB for holding the rod-in end, and SAILF if the extended rod-out end must be secured. If the mechanism needs to freeze at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a terminal position, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

Remember this is a static holding lock that engages after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Valve selection is critical: never use a fast-exhaust valve with this locker side, as back-pressure can unintentionally release the pin. Always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, and add an independent mechanical safety measure if human safety depends on the suspended load. Replacement matching requires an 80mm bore, 75mm stroke, back locker position, PT threads, and the -S magnet option.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X75S FAQ

At 0.5MPa, this bore 80 cylinder provides 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 3518N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod only at the retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the piston stops. You can unlock it automatically by supplying release air or manually via a lever, but you must avoid fast-exhaust valves to prevent back-pressure from releasing the lock.
