Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X125

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X125 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 125mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X125

The AirTAC SAILF100X125 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the front cover. Because the lock engages when the piston reaches the extended stroke end, it securely holds the rod-out position without requiring continuous live air pressure. With a 25mm carbon steel rod and a robust 100mm bore, this unit generates 5497N of push force at 0.7MPa, making it well-suited for heavy-duty positioning tasks.

The lock is statically applied after the cylinder stops, meaning it is not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. To release the load, supply air to the release port for automatic unlocking or utilize the manual release lever. Note that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 24mm, intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion on the free end. Since no magnet is specified, position sensing via CMSE reed or DMSE electronic switches is not enabled out of the box.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X125 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Extended Lift Holding

Maintains vertical loads securely at the top extended stroke end during power loss, preventing sudden drops without needing continuous air pressure.

lock

Clamp-and-Hold Station

Secures heavy workpieces at the rod-out terminal position, providing a rigid, pressure-free hold for machining or assembly processes.

shield

Gate Safety Barrier

Locks open safety gates and heavy guards in the fully extended position, requiring an intentional air release signal to close.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X125 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 100mm bore cylinder when an application demands high thrust (5497N push at 0.7MPa) and a guaranteed hold at the extended rod-out position. If your process requires holding the load mid-stroke rather than at the end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative. The SAILF variant specifically secures the extended position, whereas a SAILB model holds the retracted position.

For safe operation, never pair this cylinder with a fast-exhaust valve; back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. Always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. If human safety relies on the load remaining elevated, implement an additional independent safety measure. When replacing this unit, verify the 125mm stroke, front locker position, 1/2 PT tapered port, and the standard carbon steel rod.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X125 FAQ

At 0.7MPa operating pressure, this 100mm bore cylinder provides 5497N of push force and 3681N of pull force. It achieves a maximum push force of 7068N at 0.9MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging statically once the rod reaches the extended stroke end. It does not clamp mid-stroke. Unlocking is done automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via the lever, but back-pressure from fast-exhaust valves must be avoided to prevent accidental unlocking.
