Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X600

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X600 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 600mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X600

The AirTAC SAILF100X600 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock housed in the front cover. Because this is a SAILF model, the spring-applied, air-released lock engages only when the piston reaches the fully extended stroke end, securely holding the rod-out position. It delivers a robust 5497N of push force at 0.7 MPa, making it well-suited for heavy-duty positioning tasks.

This unit utilizes a standard carbon steel rod and PT tapered ports. The variable air cushion at the locker end is specifically machined shorter at 24 mm compared to the 36 mm cushion on the free end. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops; it is not a dynamic brake. To release the load, you can supply air to the release port for automatic unlocking or use the manual release lever.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X600 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Extended Load Holding

Maintains a lifted or extended payload securely in place during a power loss, utilizing the front cover lock to hold the rod-out position without continuous air pressure.

conveyor_belt

Flow Control Diverter

Keeps a heavy diverter gate fully open at the extended stroke end, ensuring uninterrupted material routing until an air signal releases the lock.

build

Overhead Fixture Safety

Locks a lowered tooling fixture in its extended position on the assembly line, preventing accidental retraction and protecting workers underneath.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X600 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 100 mm bore cylinder when an application requires holding a load at the extended rod-out position without maintaining live air pressure. If your process requires a higher push force at 0.5 MPa, stepping up to the 125 mm bore yields 6136N. Conversely, if you need to secure the load at the retracted rod-in position, the SAILB100X600 is the correct alternative. Should your design require locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the necessary choice.

For a drop-in replacement, verify the 100 mm bore, 600 mm stroke, front locker position, and 1/2 inch PT porting. Because this stroke is 600 mm, using an external guide mechanism is highly recommended to prevent excessive side loads on the rod. Remember that the lock holds statically at the stroke end; avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. If human safety depends on the load remaining extended, add an independent mechanical safety measure.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X600 FAQ

At a 0.7 MPa operating pressure, this 100 mm bore cylinder provides 5497N of push force and 3681N of pull force. The maximum push force reaches 7068N at 0.9 MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging statically only when the piston reaches the extended stroke end in the front cover. It does not clamp at mid-stroke. You can unlock it automatically by supplying release air or manually via the release lever.
