Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X700

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X700 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 700mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X700

The AirTAC SAILF100X700 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the front cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air automatically drives a lock pin into the 25mm carbon steel rod, securely holding the load at the fully extended stroke end without requiring live pressure. Delivering 5497N of push force at 0.7MPa, it provides robust load-holding safety for heavy vertical applications.

This model features a PT 1/2 port thread and variable air cushions at both ends, though the cushion at the locker end is notably shorter at 24mm compared to the 36mm on the free end. The lock is a static holding device that engages only after the piston stops at the extended terminal; it is not designed to brake a moving rod. For mid-stroke clamping requirements, the BSAI clamp-lock series should be used instead.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X700 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Extended Load Holding

Maintains heavy lifted loads in the extended position safely during power loss or air pressure drops.

build

Clamp and Secure

Applies 5497N of clamping force at the stroke end and mechanically locks the part in place without continuous air supply.

Gate Safety Mechanism

Secures heavy safety gates and barriers in the open extended position, requiring an air signal to release the lock.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X700 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 100mm bore when you need substantial thrust, stepping up from the 80mm version which provides 3518N of push force at 0.7MPa. Select the SAILF configuration specifically when the application requires the load to be safely held at the extended rod-out position. If your safety requirement demands locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, select the BSAI any-position clamp-lock cylinder instead.

When integrating this cylinder, strictly avoid using a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For a 700mm stroke, adding an external guide rail is highly recommended to manage side loads and prevent rod binding. To match this unit for replacement, verify the 100mm bore, 700mm stroke, front locker position, PT tapered ports, and standard carbon steel rod without a magnet.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X700 FAQ

The 100mm bore provides a push force of 5497N at 0.7MPa and 7068N at 0.9MPa. The pull force is 3681N at 0.7MPa. Maximum operating pressure is 1.0MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging automatically when the rod reaches the fully extended stroke end. It provides a static hold, not a dynamic brake. To unlock, supply air to the release port or use the manual release lever.
