Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X175

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X175 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø125mm bore, 175mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X175

The AirTAC SAILF125X175 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a mechanical lock built into the front cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air drives a lock pin into the 32mm carbon steel rod, securely holding the load at the extended stroke end without relying on live pressure. In this 125mm bore class, it generates 6136N of push force and 5734N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, making it suitable for heavy-duty end-of-stroke positioning.

The lock engages as a static hold after the piston stops, rather than acting as a dynamic brake for a moving rod. For end-of-stroke deceleration, the variable air cushion on the locker end is notably shorter at 24mm compared to the 40mm cushion on the free end. You can unlock the rod automatically by supplying air to the release port, or use the manual release lever. The standard PT tapered port is 1/2, and the operating speed range is 30-500 mm/s.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X175 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Safety

Holds heavy lifted loads securely at the extended stroke end when air pressure drops, preventing sudden drops.

Extended Position Hold

Maintains a rigid mechanical stop at the rod-out position without consuming continuous air pressure.

Heavy Clamp Retention

Keeps large clamps locked open at the end of the stroke during machine setup or emergency stops.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X175 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 125mm bore SAILF model when your application requires holding a load safely at the extended stroke end during a power loss. If you need less force, stepping down to an 80mm bore yields 2513N of push force at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to a 160mm bore provides 10053N. Select the SAILF variant for front-cover locking, and choose SAILB if the load must be held at the retracted stroke end instead. If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke position, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead of this stroke-end lock.

When matching a replacement, verify the 125mm bore, 175mm stroke, front locker position, 1/2 PT port, and your required mounting style from the ISO 15552 interface set. Avoid using a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. For any safety-critical lifting application, always add an independent mechanical safety measure alongside the lock.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X175 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, the 125mm bore provides 6136N of push force and 5734N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 8590N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, holding the rod statically at the extended stroke end. It unlocks automatically via air supply or manually via a lever. It does not clamp at mid-stroke.
