Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X225

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X225 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø125mm bore, 225mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X225

The AirTAC SAILF125X225 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock built into the front cover. This mechanism engages automatically when the piston reaches the extended stroke end, securely holding the rod out without relying on continuous live air pressure. Delivering a robust 6136N push force at 0.5MPa, it utilizes a carbon steel rod and PT tapered port threads.

Because the lock occupies the front end, the variable air cushion on that side is shorter at 24mm compared to the 40mm cushion on the free end. The lock releases automatically via air supply or manually via a lever, but avoid fast-exhaust valves; back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock, so an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X225 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Overhead Lift Hold

Maintains vertical loads securely at the extended stroke end during power loss, preventing sudden drops in heavy lifting rigs.

shield

Machine Safety Guard

Keeps large safety doors and barriers locked in the open, extended position without consuming continuous compressed air.

factory

Press Clamp Retention

Holds workpieces firmly at the outward stroke terminal during machining or assembly processes to halt accidental retraction.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X225 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 125mm bore when the 100mm bore (providing 3927N push at 0.5MPa) is insufficient for heavy vertical lifts. Select the SAILF configuration when the load must be held securely at the extended rod-out position, and pick SAILB if the retracted position needs holding. If your application requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice instead.

For replacement, verify the 125mm bore, 225mm stroke, front lock position, PT port threads, and standard carbon steel rod without a magnet. The lock provides a static hold after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. If human safety depends on the load remaining extended, install an independent safety measure alongside the lock.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X225 FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, this 125mm bore cylinder provides 6136N of push force and 5734N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0MPa pressure, it can deliver up to 1251kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the extended stroke end in the front cover. It provides static holding after the rod stops and unlocks via air supply or a manual lever; it does not clamp mid-stroke.
