This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is SAUD40X20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the SAUD40X20 in place of this model. The SAU replacement uses the same profile body, bore, stroke, force and SC-series mounting. It moves to the current CMSG / DMSG / EMSG sensor switches (the SU used CS1-B / DS1-B) and adds the SAUF valve-integrated option.

Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD40X20

The AirTAC Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD40X20 is a double-acting profile-type standard cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 20mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and adjustable end cushioning. This model is discontinued — the drop-in replacement is the SAUD40X20, which matches its bore, stroke, force and mounting.

About the Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD40X20

The AirTAC SUD40X20 is a discontinued double-acting double-rod profile cylinder. A rod exits both ends on one piston, meaning both faces use the rod-side area and push and pull force are equal at 528 N @0.5 MPa, 739 N @0.7 MPa and 950 N @0.9 MPa. It features a 40 mm bore, 20 mm stroke, 16 mm rod, M12x1.25 rod thread and a 1/4 inch air port. The exact drop-in replacement is the SAUD40X20, which shares the same body, force, port and FA/LB mounting.

Because the second rod acts as an anti-rotation guide and can drive a second tool simultaneously, this design suits compact multi-action stations. Computed buyer insight: safe working load is roughly 317 N (about 60% of the 528 N @0.5 MPa figure) and vertical lift is about 27 kg with a 2:1 margin. This non-magnet SKU cannot take a sensor, whereas the SAUD replacement uses current CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors (this legacy model used CS1-B/DS1-B). A plain cylinder does not hold loads on air loss; the 21 mm adjustable cushion only decelerates near stroke end, so use an external rod lock for held loads.

Where the Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD40X20 Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Dual-Tool Machining Station

Uses the second rod to drive an opposing clamp or cutter simultaneously, leveraging the equal both-ways force for balanced 40 mm bore operations.

conveyor_belt

Anti-Rotation Transfer Gate

The twin rods prevent piston twist during short 20 mm stroke diverting actions on a packaging line, ensuring precise product routing.

Compact Synchronized Press

Fits a short 20 mm stroke press where equal push and pull force is required to form and eject small components without rotating the tool.

Replacing the Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD40X20 with the SAUD40X20

To replace the discontinued SUD40X20, order the SAUD40X20 drop-in (insert an A after the leading S). Body, 40 mm bore, 20 mm stroke, 528/739/950 N equal-both-ways force, 1/4 inch port and FA/LB mounting remain unchanged. When sizing both ways, check the neighbouring 32 mm and 50 mm bores to ensure you maintain equal push and pull force. Choose a double-rod cylinder when you need anti-rotation stability or must drive two tools from one piston. This SKU has no magnet and cannot take a switch; upgrading to the SAUD lets you use current CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors instead of legacy CS1-B/DS1-B. For any stroke of 300 mm or longer, verify side-load limits to prevent guide wear. Mounting is compatible with the AirTAC SC series only.
