The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X100 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 100mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 5500 N.
The AirTAC BSAID100X100 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod design and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock mechanism. Because the rod extends from both end caps, it delivers equal thrust in both directions, generating 3681 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa. A defining feature of this series is the integrated enclasp gripper, which secures the piston rod at any position along its 100 mm travel. It provides a robust static holding force of 5500 N. It is vital to understand that this holding force is a separate metric from the cylinder thrust; you must size the clamp holding capacity against your static load, not the pneumatic push or pull force. The lock is bidirectional, securely retaining the load regardless of whether the rod was extending or retracting. A third G1/8 enclasp port supplies the unlock pressure, which must be applied only after the cylinder pressures are balanced to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly upon release. The double-rod architecture is specifically chosen to mount a workpiece on one end while attaching a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. The variable air cushion at both ends decelerates the piston near stroke end, but this cushion is not the lock; the mechanical clamp is what actually holds the load. Operating pressure spans 0.15-0.7 MPa, and speed ranges from 30-500 mm/s.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 3927 N | 3682 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 5498 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a vertically oriented workpiece at any point in the 100 mm travel, preventing sudden drops if air pressure drops.
Holds a dual-sided fixture rigidly in place during drilling or milling, using the opposite rod end for anti-rotation guidance.
The spring-applied clamp engages instantly when air is removed, freezing the load safely mid-stroke until pressure is restored.
Select this double-rod model when your application requires equal force in both directions alongside multi-position holding. If you need less holding capacity, the bore 80 version provides 2268 N of pull thrust at 0.5 MPa and a 3600 N static hold. For heavier loads, the bore 125 offers 5734 N of thrust at 0.5 MPa and an 8600 N hold. Choose this BSAID clamp-lock over a plain SAID when preventing a mid-stroke drop during power loss is critical. If you only need to hold at stroke ends, a SAIL cylinder suffices. Remember that this clamp locks only after the rod has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. Safety-critical loads require an additional independent safety measure. This unit features a 25 mm rod with an M20x1.5 thread, PT tapered ports (1/2 inch cylinder port, G1/8 enclasp port), and accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mountings (omitting FB, CA, CB, CR). No magnet is specified for this configuration, so CMSE or DMSE sensors cannot be used without modification.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 5500 N. It is bidirectional and locks at any position along the 100 mm stroke. Note that this holding force is independent of the 3681 N pneumatic thrust.
The clamp unlocks via a third G1/8 enclasp port. To prevent abrupt rod movement, the air pressures on both sides of the piston must be balanced and the cylinder stopped before applying the unlock pressure.
