The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X100S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 100mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 5500 N.
The AirTAC BSAID100X100-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod extending from both ends and a built-in spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It delivers an equal thrust of 3681 N in both push and pull directions at 0.5 MPa, while the integrated enclasp mechanism provides a static holding force of 5500 N. Buyers must distinguish this holding force from the cylinder thrust: the 5500 N rating dictates the static load the clamp can freeze in place, whereas the 3681 N thrust dictates the dynamic moving capability. The clamp grips the carbon steel rod at any position along the 100 mm stroke, locking bidirectionally once the piston stops.
This enclasp unit requires a third G1/8 pneumatic port (separate from the 1/2 cylinder ports) to release the lock at 0.15-0.7 MPa. The double-rod layout is specifically chosen to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end, providing dual-side anti-rotation guidance. The integrated variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near the stroke ends; it does not hold the load. The -S magnet option enables position sensing via AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic switches.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 3927 N | 3682 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 5498 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Freezes a heavy vertical workpiece at any height along the 100 mm stroke with 5500 N of holding force, preventing sudden drops during air pressure loss.
Holds a dual-sided fixture rigidly in place for machining or inspection, using the second rod end for an external guide or position flag.
The spring-applied clamp engages automatically anywhere in the travel when air is removed, securing the load until balanced pressure is restored.
Select the BSAID100X100-S when a process requires equal force both directions and mid-stroke holding, such as lifting and lowering a vertical load. If an application only needs to hold at the stroke end, a plain SAIL100 cylinder suffices, but this BSAID is required for freezing a load anywhere in the 100 mm travel. If the 5500 N holding force or 3681 N thrust is insufficient, stepping up to the 125 bore increases the holding capacity to 8600 N and thrust to 5734 N. Conversely, the 80 bore offers a 3600 N hold and 2268 N pull thrust for lighter loads.
The clamp locks only after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. Unlocking requires balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston, or the rod may jump abruptly. For safety-critical human loads, install an additional independent safety measure. This replacement match features a 100 mm bore, 100 mm stroke, PT tapered ports, and a double-rod layout. It accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB, CA, CB, CR). The M20x1.5 rod thread and 25 mm rod diameter provide high side-load resistance, though long unsupported strokes still need an external guide.
Quick checklist
The integrated enclasp mechanism provides a static holding force of 5500 N. It locks the carbon steel rod bidirectionally at any position along the 100 mm stroke, but only after the cylinder has stopped moving.
The lock is air-released via a third G1/8 port. To prevent the rod from jumping, the air pressures on both sides of the piston must be balanced before unlocking. The clamp is not a moving-rod brake.
