About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X75

The AirTAC BSAID100X75 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod extending from both ends and a built-in clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released gripper clamps the piston rod to secure the load at ANY position along its 75 mm travel, delivering a static holding force of 5500 N. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is equal in both directions at 3681 N (at 0.5 MPa). It is crucial to distinguish this holding force from the cylinder thrust: you must size the clamp's 5500 N capacity against your static load, not the pneumatic thrust.

The second rod allows you to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the other, providing dual-side anti-rotation guidance. The clamp operates via a separate G1/8 enclasp port, requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa to release. Remember that the variable air cushions only decelerate the piston near stroke ends; the mechanical clamp is what actually holds the load. Operating speed is 30-500 mm/s.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

5500 N
static holding force (Ø100 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø100mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa3927 N3682 N
0.7 MPa (max)5498 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X75 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Load Holding

Secures a 100 mm bore lifting axis at any intermediate height with 5500 N of holding force, preventing gravity-driven drops during an air loss event.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Freezes the dual-rod workpiece platform rigidly in place for drilling or inspection, using the second rod for an external guide to resist cutting torque.

shield

Emergency Stop Safety

Holds the load securely mid-stroke when power is removed, though an independent secondary safety measure is required for human-safe zones.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X75 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this double-rod model when your application requires equal force both ways and dual-side mounting. If you only need unidirectional thrust, a single-rod BSAI100X75 offers the same 5500 N holding capacity. If you need to hold heavier loads, stepping up is not an option as 125 mm is the largest bore (8600 N hold, 5734 N thrust). For lighter vertical axes, a BSAI80X200 provides 3600 N of holding force.

This clamp locks only AFTER the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. It must be unlocked with balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston, or the rod may jump abruptly. Safety-critical loads require an additional independent safety measure. This replacement uses PT tapered ports (1/2 inch cylinder, G1/8 enclasp), a 25 mm carbon steel rod with an M20x1.5 thread, and accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, or TCM2 mountings (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR). No magnet is specified.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X75 FAQ

The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 5500 N. It engages via a spring-applied gripper at any position along the stroke and is released only when 0.15-0.7 MPa of air is applied to the G1/8 enclasp port.

The clamp locks only after the cylinder has stopped moving; it cannot brake a moving rod. You must balance the air pressure on both sides of the piston before unlocking, or the rod may jump abruptly. For human-safety applications, an additional independent safety measure is required.
