About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID32X100

The AirTAC BSAID32X100 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It provides a static holding force of 600 N and grips the piston rod securely at any position along its 100 mm travel. Because it is a double-rod actuator, it delivers equal thrust in both directions at 345 N, while allowing you to mount a workpiece on one rod end and a guide or position flag on the opposite end.

It is vital to distinguish this 600 N static holding force from the 345 N cylinder thrust; the clamp sustains the stationary load, whereas thrust drives the motion. The integrated variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near the stroke ends and does not contribute to holding the load. Furthermore, the clamp utilizes a separate G1/8 enclasp port and requires a balanced air pressure of 0.15-0.7 MPa to unlock safely, preventing abrupt rod movement upon release.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

600 N
static holding force (Ø32 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø32mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa402 N346 N
0.7 MPa (max)563 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID32X100 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Load Holding

Secures a vertically lifted workpiece at any point in the 100 mm travel, preventing gravity-driven drops during a sudden air pressure loss.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Hold

Locks the double-rod assembly rigidly in place for a secondary machining or inspection process, absorbing the static load independently of the 345 N thrust.

build

Dual-Tool Actuation

Uses one rod end for the primary workpiece and the opposite end for a counterweight or secondary tool, holding the assembly firmly mid-stroke.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID32X100 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this double-rod model when your application requires equal push and pull forces alongside multi-axis mounting or anti-rotation guidance. If your load demands a higher holding capacity, stepping up to the 40 mm bore increases the clamp force to 900 N and the thrust to 528 N. Conversely, if locking is only necessary at the fully extended or retracted stroke ends, a standard SAIL cylinder provides a simpler, more cost-effective solution. If no locking is needed at all, a plain SAID double-rod cylinder suffices.

This cylinder operates at speeds of 30-800 mm/s and features PT tapered ports, with the main cylinder port sized at 1/8 and the enclasp port at G1/8. As a double-rod unit, it supports Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounting brackets, omitting the FB, CA, CB, and CR styles. The clamp locks only after the rod has completely stopped, meaning it cannot brake a moving load, and safety-critical applications require an independent external measure. Without a magnet specified, this unit does not support CMSE or DMSE sensors.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at any position?
  • ✓ Or stroke-end only → use SAIL
  • ✓ Holding force ≥ your load
  • ✓ Balanced-pressure unlock circuit

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID32X100 FAQ

The BSAID32X100 provides a static holding force of 600 N. Its spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock mechanism can secure the double rod at any position along the 100 mm stroke, not just at the ends.

The clamp engages automatically via spring force when air is removed, but it only locks after the rod has stopped moving, meaning it cannot brake a moving actuator. To unlock it safely, you must apply 0.15-0.7 MPa of air pressure to the G1/8 enclasp port only after the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, otherwise the rod may jump abruptly.
