About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X1000

The AirTAC BSAID50X1000 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod extending from both ends and a built-in spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock mechanism. It delivers 825 Newtons of thrust in both directions at 0.5 MPa, while the integrated enclasp gripper secures the rod at any position along the 1000mm stroke with a static holding force of 1400 N. It is crucial to distinguish this holding force from thrust: the 1400 N rating defines the clamp's ability to resist a static load, whereas the 825 N figure represents the pneumatic driving force.

The double-rod architecture is specifically chosen to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end, providing dual-side anti-rotation guidance for long-stroke stability. A third G1/8 enclasp port controls the unlock function, which requires balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly upon release. Furthermore, the variable air cushions at the stroke ends only decelerate the piston; they do not hold the load, as all static positioning is managed exclusively by the clamp.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

1400 N
static holding force (Ø50 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø50mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa982 N825 N
0.7 MPa (max)1374 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (1400 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X1000 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Z-Axis Hold

Secures elevated payloads at any intermediate height along the 1000mm travel, preventing gravity-driven falls during a power loss event.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Clamps the dual rods rigidly to maintain exact positioning of a workpiece or fixture during secondary processing or inspection.

conveyor_belt

Long-Stroke Transfer

Uses the opposing rod end for a counterweight or position flag, ensuring stable horizontal transfer over extended 1-meter movements.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X1000 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Select this double-rod model when a 1000mm stroke requires intermediate positioning and dual-side guidance. If your application only needs locking at the stroke ends, a plain SAIL50X1000 suffices, but BSAID is necessary for bidirectional hold anywhere. If greater holding capacity is needed, stepping up to the 63mm bore provides 2200 N of holding force and 1402 N of thrust at 0.5 MPa.

For safe operation, remember the clamp locks only after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. Safety-critical loads require an additional independent measure. This replacement match features a 50mm bore, 1000mm stroke, PT threaded ports (1/4 cylinder, G1/8 enclasp), an M16x1.5 carbon steel rod, and accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, or TCM2 mountings (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR). Because the stroke is 1000mm, an external guide is recommended to prevent side-load damage despite the robust rod.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X1000 FAQ

The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 1400 N. It engages via spring pressure to hold the double rod at any position along the stroke, operating entirely separately from the 825 N pneumatic thrust.

The clamp unlocks only when air pressure is applied to the G1/8 enclasp port and the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced. If pressures are unbalanced, the rod can jump abruptly upon release. The clamp also only engages after the rod stops; it cannot brake a moving load.
