The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X350S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø50mm bore, 350mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 1400 N.
The AirTAC BSAID50X350-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod extending from both ends and a built-in clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released gripper clamps the 20mm rod to secure the load at ANY position along the 350mm stroke, providing a static holding force of 1400 N. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is equal in both directions at 825 N (0.5 MPa), and the opposing rod is ideal for mounting a counterweight, position flag, or achieving dual-side guidance. It includes a -S magnet for CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors.
It is vital to distinguish holding force from cylinder thrust: the 1400 N clamp rating is the static load capacity of the brake, entirely separate from the 825 N driving force. Furthermore, the variable air cushion at the stroke ends only decelerates the piston; it does not hold the load. The clamp requires a third G1/8 enclasp port to release the spring. Note that this lock engages only after the cylinder has stopped moving, meaning it cannot brake a moving rod, and it must be unlocked with balanced air pressures to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 982 N | 825 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 1374 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (1400 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a vertically transferred workpiece at any intermediate height along the 350mm travel, preventing drops if air pressure is lost.
Clamps the dual-rod assembly rigidly during drilling or inspection processes, using the 1400 N holding force to resist machining vibration.
The spring-applied clamp engages automatically upon air loss, freezing the load exactly where it stopped to protect operators and tooling.
Choose this double-rod clamp-lock model when a workpiece or tooling is mounted on one end and a guide, flag, or secondary tool is needed on the opposite end, requiring equal push and pull forces (825 N at 0.5 MPa). If you do not need a second rod, step down to the single-rod BSAI50X350-S. If your load requires a higher holding capacity, the 63mm bore offers 2200 N of holding force and 1402 N of pull thrust. If you only need to hold the load at the stroke ends rather than anywhere in transit, a plain SAIL or SAID cylinder suffices.
This 350mm stroke exceeds the threshold requiring external side-load support; an independent guide rail is recommended to prevent rod binding, despite the structural benefit of the 20mm rod and M16x1.5 thread. The clamp locks only after the rod stops, so it cannot serve as an emergency brake, and safety-critical applications need an independent fallback measure. Replacement requires a double-rod, 50mm bore, 350mm stroke, PT ported cylinder with the -S magnet. The correct mounting set for BSAID omits FB, CA, CB, and CR, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 brackets. Unlock pressure is 0.15-0.7 MPa via the G1/8 port.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 1400 N at any position. However, it only locks AFTER the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake or decelerate a moving rod.
The double-rod design provides equal thrust in both directions (825 N at 0.5 MPa) and allows you to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide or position flag on the other. It also omits the FB, CA, CB, and CR mountings to accommodate the dual rods.
