The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X700 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø50mm bore, 700mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 1400 N.
The AirTAC BSAID50X700 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod layout and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It delivers 825 N of thrust in both extension and retraction directions at 0.5 MPa. A defining trait of this enclasp mechanism is its capacity to secure the piston rod at any position along the 700 mm travel, providing a static holding force of 1400 N. It is crucial to distinguish this holding force from the cylinder thrust: the 1400 N clamp rating dictates how much static load the brake can sustain, whereas the 825 N thrust value governs the actuator's motive capability during movement.
Because it is a double-rod actuator, the BSAID50X700 is specifically designed for applications needing dual-side guidance or anti-rotation, allowing a workpiece on one end and a counterweight or position flag on the opposite end. The clamping mechanism relies on a separate G1/8 enclasp port to release the brake, which operates effectively only when the air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced. Furthermore, the variable air cushions at stroke ends merely decelerate the piston; they do not hold the load, as only the mechanical clamp provides true static positioning.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

| 0.7 MPa (max) | 1374 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (1400 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a 50 mm bore lifting mechanism at any intermediate height during a power loss, preventing gravity-driven drops.
Holds a dual-sided workpiece carrier perfectly stationary at a custom mid-stroke coordinate for precise milling or drilling.
Utilizes the double-rod design to mount a clamping tool on one end and an alignment flag on the other, locking the assembly mid-transit.
Select the BSAID50X700 when an application requires equal force in both directions alongside mid-stroke holding, such as lifting and lowering a vertical load. If the 825 N thrust or 1400 N holding capacity is insufficient, stepping up to the bore 63 double-rod variant increases thrust to 1402 N and holding force to 2200 N. Conversely, lighter duties can drop to the bore 40 model, which offers 528 N pull thrust and a 900 N hold. This clamp-lock variant outperforms a stroke-end-only SAIL cylinder when the load must be frozen at an arbitrary point in the travel rather than at the physical limits. If no intermediate holding is required, a plain SAID double-rod cylinder suffices.
When integrating this model, note that the clamp locks only after the rod has completely stopped; it cannot brake a moving load. Safety-critical applications must incorporate an independent external safety measure. The 700 mm stroke is substantial; with a 20 mm rod and M16x1.5 thread, the actuator handles side loads well, but an external guide is strongly recommended to prevent binding over this long, unsupported distance. This double-rod configuration accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB, CA, CB, and CR). The cylinder features PT porting and lacks a standard magnet, so CMSE reed or DMSE electronic sensors cannot be used without specifying the -S option.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 1400 N. It is spring-applied and air-released, meaning it will grip the 20 mm rod at any position along the 700 mm stroke to hold the load securely without requiring continuous air pressure.
The clamp can only be released when the cylinder has stopped and the air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced. If pressures are not equalized, the rod may jump abruptly upon unlocking. The clamp locks only after the rod stops and cannot be used as a dynamic brake.
