The AirTAC BSAID63X160 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod design and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It provides a static holding force of 2200 N and locks the piston rod at any position along its 160 mm travel. Because it is a double-rod actuator, the thrust is equal in both directions at 1402 N (0.5 MPa), and the second rod allows you to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide or position flag on the other. Remember that this 2200 N holding force is a separate metric from the 1402 N cylinder thrust; you must size the clamp against the static load, not the motive force.

This enclasp mechanism is bidirectional, but it only engages after the cylinder has stopped moving—it cannot brake a rod in motion. Unlocking requires a third G1/8 port and balanced air pressure (0.15-0.7 MPa) on both sides of the piston; otherwise, the rod may jump abruptly upon release. The variable air cushions only decelerate the piston near the stroke ends, while the clamp provides the actual holding power.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Choose this BSAID63X160 when you need dual-side guidance or equal push/pull force alongside mid-stroke holding. If your application only requires holding at the stroke ends, a SAIL cylinder suffices; if no lock is needed, a plain SAID is simpler. For lighter vertical loads, the BSAI50 offers 825 N thrust and 1400 N holding force, while heavier setups might step up to the BSAI80 with 2268 N thrust and 3600 N holding force. Always ensure human-safety loads have an independent backup measure.

This model features a 20 mm carbon steel rod with an M16x1.5 thread, PT tapered ports (3/8 cylinder, G1/8 enclasp), and operates at 30-800 mm/s. It accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, or TCM2 mountings (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR). Without a magnet (-S), it cannot host CMSE or DMSE sensors. For this 160 mm stroke, the robust rod handles side loads well, but longer strokes over 300 mm require external guidance.
