About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X200S

The AirTAC BSAID63X200-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod extending from both ends and an integrated spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It delivers a bidirectional holding force of 2200 N at any position along its 200 mm stroke. Because it is a double-rod unit, the thrust is equal in both directions at 1402 N (0.5 MPa), and the second rod allows mounting a counterweight, position flag, or dual-side guidance to prevent rotation. You must size the holding force against your static load, as the 2200 N clamp capacity is a separate metric from the cylinder's thrust.

This enclasp mechanism operates via a third G1/8 port, requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa to release the spring tension. Remember that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke end; the mechanical clamp is what actually secures the load. The clamp locks only after the rod has stopped, meaning it cannot brake a moving load, and it must be unlocked with balanced pressures on both sides of the piston to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

2200 N
static holding force (Ø63 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø63mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa1559 N1402 N
0.7 MPa (max)2182 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X200S Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Z-Axis Holding

Holds a 2200 N vertical load at any mid-stroke position without relying on continuous air pressure, preventing crashes during sudden power loss.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Secures a dual-sided workpiece fixture rigidly in place for machining or inspection, using the second rod for a position flag.

shield

Emergency Drop Prevention

Acts as a fail-safe gripper on the rod to freeze a stopped load instantly when the air supply drops, protecting operators and tooling.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X200S the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this double-rod BSAID63X200-S when you need equal push/pull thrust (1402 N at 0.5 MPa) and anti-rotation guidance alongside a 2200 N hold anywhere in the stroke. If your application only requires holding at the stroke end, a SAIL63 cylinder is a simpler choice, while a plain SAID63 suffices if no clamp is needed. If the 1402 N thrust is insufficient, stepping up to the 80 mm bore yields 2268 N thrust and 3600 N holding force; if lower force is acceptable, the 50 mm bore offers 825 N thrust and 1400 N holding force.

This model includes a PT tapered port thread, a carbon steel rod, and an -S magnet for CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors. It accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB, CA, CB, and CR). The M16x1.5 rod thread handles side loads well, but for any stroke over 300 mm, an external guide rail is required to prevent rod binding.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X200S FAQ

The integrated clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 2200 N. It uses a spring-applied, air-released mechanism to grip the rod bidirectionally at any position. This holding force is separate from the cylinder's 1402 N thrust and only engages after the rod has completely stopped moving.

You must apply balanced air pressure to both sides of the piston via the cylinder ports before supplying 0.15-0.7 MPa to the third G1/8 enclasp port. If pressures are not balanced, the rod can jump abruptly upon release. For human-safety critical applications, an additional independent safety measure is required.
