About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X300

The AirTAC BSAID63X300 is a double-acting, double-rod ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It provides a static holding force of 2200 N, gripping the piston rod securely at any position along its 300 mm travel. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is equal in both directions at 1402 N (0.5 MPa). Remember that this holding force is a separate metric from thrust: you must size the clamp's 2200 N capacity against your static load, not the cylinder's propulsion power.

This enclasp mechanism is bidirectional and locks only after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. Unlocking requires a third G1/8 port and balanced air pressure (0.15-0.7 MPa) to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly. The double-rod architecture allows you to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide or position flag on the other, providing dual-side anti-rotation. Note that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke end; the clamp is what actually holds the load.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

2200 N
static holding force (Ø63 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø63mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa1559 N1402 N
0.7 MPa (max)2182 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X300 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Mid-Stroke Vertical Hold

Locks a lifting platform securely at any point in its 300 mm travel with 2200 N of holding force, preventing gravity-driven drops during power loss.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Freezes a dual-sided workpiece fixture in place for machining or inspection, using the second rod for a position flag to verify alignment.

shield

Emergency Drop Prevention

Acts as a fail-safe gripper that engages only after the rod stops, holding the load steady until balanced air pressure safely releases the clamp.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X300 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this double-rod clamp-lock when you need to hold a load mid-stroke rather than just at the end of travel (where a SAIL cylinder would suffice) or when a plain SAID lacks holding power. If your application requires less holding force, stepping down to a bore 50 provides 825 N equal thrust and a 1400 N clamp; if you need more, a bore 80 offers 2268 N thrust and 3600 N holding force. For safety-critical stops, note that this lock engages only after the rod stops and requires balanced pressure to release safely, so an independent safety measure is required for human safety.

This BSAID63X300 features a 20 mm carbon steel rod with an M16x1.5 thread, PT tapered ports (3/8 cylinder, G1/8 enclasp), and operates at 30-800 mm/s. Because the stroke is 300 mm, an external guide is recommended to handle side loads. It uses the double-rod mounting set (Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, TCM2), omitting FB/CA/CB/CR. As no magnet is specified, it will not support CMSE or DMSE sensors without modification.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X300 FAQ

It provides a static holding force of 2200 N. The clamp-lock engages at any position along the 300 mm stroke, holding the load bidirectionally once the rod has stopped.

The clamp is spring-applied and air-released via a third G1/8 port. You must apply balanced air pressure (0.15-0.7 MPa) to both sides of the piston to unlock it safely; otherwise, the rod may jump. It cannot brake a moving rod.
