The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X400S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 400mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 2200 N.
The AirTAC BSAID63X400-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and an integrated spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It delivers a bidirectional thrust of 1402 N at 0.5 MPa, equal in both directions, while the enclasp mechanism provides a static holding force of 2200 N. Remember that holding force and thrust are distinct quantities; you must size the clamp's 2200 N capacity against your static load, not the cylinder's thrust. The clamp locks at any position along the 400 mm stroke, but only after the rod has stopped moving.
A rod extends from both ends, allowing you to mount a workpiece on one side and a guide or position flag on the other for dual-side anti-rotation. The enclasp unlocks via a third G1/8 port, requiring balanced air pressure on both sides of the piston to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly. This unit includes a magnet for CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors. Note that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke ends; it does not hold the load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 1559 N | 1402 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 2182 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Locks a 1402 N load at any point along a 400 mm vertical travel to prevent dropping when air pressure is removed.
Spring-applied clamp engages instantly upon air loss to freeze the double-rod position securely mid-stroke.
Provides rigid 2200 N workholding for inspection or machining, using the opposite rod end for a position flag.
Choose this double-rod model when you need equal push and pull forces (1402 N both ways) plus anti-rotation guidance. If your application only requires holding at the stroke end, a SAIL cylinder suffices, but BSAI/BSAID locks anywhere. If you need higher force, stepping up to the bore 80 yields 2268 N thrust and 3600 N holding force; stepping down to bore 50 gives 825 N thrust and 1400 N holding force. Because this is a 400 mm stroke, an external guide is recommended to handle side loads. The 3/8 cylinder ports and G1/8 unlock port use PT tapered threads. Mounting options omit FB, CA, CB, and CR, accepting Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2. The -S magnet works with AirTAC CMSE and DMSE sensors.
For safe operation, note the clamp cannot brake a moving rod; it only holds after the cylinder stops. Safety-critical loads require an additional independent safety measure. Always balance pressures before unlocking to avoid abrupt rod movement.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 2200 N. It locks at any position along the 400 mm stroke, but only after the rod has completely stopped moving.
The clamp unlocks via a third G1/8 port. You must balance the air pressure on both sides of the piston before releasing the clamp, otherwise the rod can move abruptly.
