The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X450 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 450mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 2200 N.
The AirTAC BSAID63X450 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod design and an integrated spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It delivers equal thrust in both directions, generating 1402 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa on each side. The integrated enclasp mechanism provides a static holding force of 2200 N, gripping the rod securely at any position along its 450 mm travel. Remember that this holding force is a separate metric from thrust; you must size the clamp capacity against your static load, not the cylinder's push/pull power.
Because it is a double-rod actuator, you can mount a workpiece on one end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end for dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. The clamp mechanism requires a third G1/8 enclasp port alongside the 3/8 cylinder ports to release the grip. Note that the variable air cushions only decelerate the piston near stroke ends; the clamp itself is what secures the load. The clamp locks only after the rod has stopped, meaning it cannot brake a moving load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 1559 N | 1402 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 2182 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a lifted vertical load at any point in the 450 mm travel, preventing sudden drops during a compressed air failure.
Holds a dual-side workpiece rigidly for machining or inspection, using the opposite rod end for a counterweight.
Provides emergency load holding exactly where the rod stops, though it cannot brake a moving actuator.
Choose this double-rod model when you need identical force both ways and multi-side tooling. If you need higher holding capacity, the 80 mm bore offers 3600 N holding force and 2268 N thrust at 0.5 MPa. If your application only requires locking at the stroke ends, a SAIL cylinder suffices, but choose this BSAID to hold anywhere in the 450 mm travel. For standard non-locking double-rod tasks, a plain SAID is adequate.
This 450 mm stroke requires an external guide to prevent side-load wear on the 20 mm rods and M16x1.25 threads. The clamp locks after the rod stops and requires balanced air pressure to unlock safely; otherwise, the rod can jump. Human-safety applications need an independent safety measure. Replacement requires a double-rod, 63 mm bore, 450 mm stroke, PT port threads, and mounting from the Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, or TCM2 set (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR).
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 2200 N. It grips the rod bidirectionally at any position, but only engages after the cylinder has stopped moving.
The clamp is spring-applied and air-released via a G1/8 port. You must balance the air pressure on both sides of the piston before unlocking, or the rod can jump abruptly. An independent safety measure is required for human safety.
