The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X450S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 450mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 2200 N.
The AirTAC BSAID63X450-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod layout and a built-in spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the load at any position along the 450mm stroke, delivering a static holding force of 2200 N. Because it is a double-rod unit, the thrust is identical in both directions at 1402 N (pull value at 0.5 MPa), and having a rod extending from both ends allows you to mount a workpiece on one side and a guide or counterweight on the opposite side for dual-side anti-rotation. Keep in mind that holding force and thrust are separate quantities; you must size the 2200 N clamp capacity against your static load, not the 1402 N cylinder thrust. The clamp requires a third G1/8 enclasp port to release, operating within a balanced 0.15-0.7 MPa range. A carbon steel rod and M16x1.5 thread provide robust side-load resistance, while the integrated variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke ends—it does not hold the load.
This model includes a magnet for position sensing, working seamlessly with AirTAC CMSE reed switches and DMSE electronic sensors. The clamp locks bidirectionally but only after the piston has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. To prevent abrupt movement, the cylinder must be unlocked only when air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced. For any safety-critical application, an additional independent safety measure is required.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |

| 0.7 MPa (max) | 2182 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a vertically lifted payload at any point in the 450mm travel, preventing gravity-driven drops during a sudden air loss.
Locks the double rod firmly at a specific intermediate coordinate for drilling or inspection, utilizing the 2200 N clamp rather than relying on thrust pressure.
Uses the opposing rod end for a counterweight while the 2200 N enclasp mechanism holds the assembly still when the machine enters an emergency stop state.
Choose this double-rod configuration when your mechanism requires equal push and pull forces, or when you need to attach a secondary tool, position flag, or external guide to the opposite rod end. If you only need unidirectional thrust, the single-rod BSAI63X450-S offers the same 2200 N holding force in a simpler footprint. Stepping up to an 80mm bore increases thrust to 2268 N and holding force to 3600 N, while dropping to a 50mm bore reduces thrust to 825 N and holding force to 1400 N. Select BSAID over a stroke-end-only SAIL cylinder when you must freeze the load mid-travel. The clamp engages only after the rod stops and requires balanced pressure to unlock safely. This 63mm bore uses PT 3/8 cylinder ports alongside the G1/8 enclasp port. The BSAID mounting set omits FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets, supporting Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2. At 450mm stroke, the extended rod length necessitates an external guide to prevent binding and manage side loads.
Quick checklist
The spring-applied clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 2200 N. It engages bidirectionally at any position along the 450mm stroke, but only after the rod has completely stopped moving.
The clamp is released via the G1/8 enclasp port, but only when the air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced. Releasing it with unbalanced pressure will cause the rod to jump abruptly. Safety-critical loads require an independent external safety measure.
