The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X600 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 600mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 2200 N.
The AirTAC BSAID63X600 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and an integrated clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released gripper secures the piston rod at any position along its 600 mm travel, delivering a static holding force of 2200 N. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is equal in both directions, providing 1402 N of push and pull force at 0.5 MPa. It is crucial to distinguish this holding force from thrust: the 2200 N rating defines the clamp's ability to resist a static load, entirely separate from the cylinder's 0.7 MPa maximum thrust of 2182 N.
This enclasp system requires a third G1/8 pneumatic port to release the clamp, operating alongside the standard 3/8 cylinder ports. The clamp locks bidirectionally after the rod has completely stopped, meaning it cannot brake a moving load. Furthermore, the mechanism must be unlocked only when air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, preventing the rod from jumping abruptly upon release. The variable air cushions at both ends solely decelerate the piston near stroke end and do not contribute to holding the load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 1559 N | 1402 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 2182 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a vertically lifted load at any intermediate height using 2200 N of holding force, preventing descent during air pressure loss without relying on stroke-end stops.
Freezes a dual-sided workpiece fixture exactly where machining needs to occur, using the double-rod design to maintain equal positioning force and resist rotational torque.
Acts as a fail-safe clamp that engages the moment the rod stops moving, providing a bidirectional hold to protect processes and operators from sudden pneumatic power loss.
Choose this double-rod model when an application requires mounting a workpiece on one rod end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end, utilizing dual-side guidance for anti-rotation. If bidirectional force is unnecessary, the single-rod BSAI63X600 offers the same 2200 N holding force and 0.5 MPa thrust in a simpler footprint. For lighter vertical loads, the BSAI50X600 provides 1400 N of holding force and 825 N of pull thrust, whereas heavier setups might require the BSAI80X600 with 3600 N of holding force. This BSAID63X600 locks anywhere along the stroke, a major advantage over SAIL cylinders which only secure at stroke ends.
When replacing this unit, ensure you specify a double-rod configuration, a 63 mm bore, 600 mm stroke, and PT threaded ports. The 20 mm rod and M16x1.5 thread provide robust side-load capacity, but at 600 mm of stroke, an external guide rail is still recommended to prevent binding. The correct mounting set for this double-rod version includes Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2, omitting the FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets. Without a magnet specified, this unit does not support CMSE or DMSE sensors. Remember that safety-critical loads require an independent mechanical safety measure, as the clamp only holds after the cylinder stops.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 2200 N. It engages a spring-applied gripper to hold the double rod at any position along the 600 mm stroke, but only after the cylinder has completely stopped moving.
The clamp is released via a third G1/8 enclasp port, but only after the air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced. If pressures are not equalized before unlocking, the rod can move abruptly, posing a hazard.
