About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X75S

The AirTAC BSAID63X75-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod out both ends and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It delivers an equal thrust of 1402 N in both directions at 0.5 MPa. The integrated enclasp mechanism provides a static holding force of 2200 N, gripping the rod securely at any position along its 75 mm travel. You must size this holding force against your static load, as the clamp's 2200 N capacity is a distinct quantity from the cylinder's 1402 N thrust.

A double-rod layout is chosen to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the other, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. The clamp uses a third G1/8 enclasp port and requires balanced pressure to unlock safely. Note that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke ends; the clamp is the true holding device. This version includes a magnet for CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

2200 N
static holding force (Ø63 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø63mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa1559 N1402 N
0.7 MPa (max)2182 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X75S Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Axis Hold

Maintains a 1402 N payload at any intermediate height on a vertical plane, preventing gravity-driven drops during cycle pauses.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Freezes the dual-rod assembly mid-stroke so a workpiece stays rigidly clamped for secondary milling or inspection without drift.

Power Loss Safety

The spring-applied enclasp engages instantly upon air loss, securing the guided load exactly where it stopped along the travel.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X75S the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this double-rod configuration when your mechanism requires equal force both ways and anti-rotation support via a secondary rod end. If you do not need a second rod, the single-rod BSAI63X75-S offers the same 2200 N holding force with a higher 1559 N push thrust at 0.5 MPa. For lighter loads, a 50 mm bore provides 825 N pull thrust and 1400 N holding force. The clamp locks only after the rod stops; it cannot brake a moving load. Always balance air pressure before unlocking to prevent the rod from jumping, and add an independent safety measure if human safety depends on the hold.

This 63 mm bore uses a 3/8 cylinder port alongside the G1/8 unlock port, with an M16x1.5 rod thread. It accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR). The PT port thread and -S magnet for CMSE/DMSE switches are standard.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at any position?
  • ✓ Or stroke-end only → use SAIL
  • ✓ Holding force ≥ your load
  • ✓ Balanced-pressure unlock circuit
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X75S FAQ

The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 2200 N. It is bidirectional and locks the rod at any position along the stroke, but only after the cylinder has stopped moving.

The clamp uses a third G1/8 port and requires 0.15-0.7 MPa to release. You must balance the air pressure on both sides of the piston before unlocking, or the rod may jump abruptly.
