The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X800 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 800mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 2200 N.
The AirTAC BSAID63X800 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod design and an integrated spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It delivers a bidirectional thrust of 1402 N at 0.5 MPa, ensuring equal force whether extending or retracting. The clamping mechanism provides a static holding force of 2200 N. It is crucial to distinguish this holding force from the cylinder's thrust; the clamp secures the static load independently of the pneumatic push or pull force, meaning you must size the holding capacity against the actual load weight, not the cylinder's motive power.
This enclasp unit locks the piston rod at any position along its 800 mm stroke, a major advantage over stroke-end-only locks. The clamp engages via a third G1/8 enclasp port and functions strictly after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. The double-rod configuration allows mounting a workpiece on one end and a guide or position flag on the opposite end, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. Furthermore, the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near the stroke ends; the clamp itself is the device that holds the load securely.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 1559 N | 1402 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 2182 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a vertical load at any point along the 800 mm travel during power loss, preventing gravity-driven drops.
Holds a dual-sided workpiece or fixture rigidly in place for mid-stroke milling or inspection processes.
Uses the double-rod ends to mount a secondary guide or flag, ensuring precise tracking without rotational drift.
Choose this double-rod model when a load must be held mid-stroke and equal force is required in both directions. If you only need to hold at the stroke end, a plain SAIL cylinder suffices, but the BSAID excels for mid-travel positioning. Stepping up to a bore 80 unit increases the holding force to 3600 N and thrust to 2268 N, while a bore 50 unit drops to 1400 N holding force and 825 N thrust. Because the stroke is 800 mm, an external guide is recommended to prevent excessive side-loading on the rod seals despite the robust M16x1.5 rod thread.
The clamp locks only after the rod stops and must be unlocked with balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston; otherwise, the rod can jump abruptly. For safety-critical applications, an additional independent mechanical measure is required. This BSAID63X800 features PT port threads, a 3/8 cylinder port, and the G1/8 unlock port. It accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR). As no magnet is specified, it cannot use CMSE or DMSE sensors without modification.
Quick checklist
The spring-applied, air-released clamp provides a static holding force of 2200 N at any position along the stroke. It engages only after the cylinder has stopped moving and cannot be used to brake a moving rod.
The clamp must be unlocked by applying 0.15-0.7 MPa to the G1/8 enclasp port only after the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, preventing the rod from jumping. The double-rod BSAID design accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts.
