The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X800S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 800mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 2200 N.
The AirTAC BSAID63X800-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 extruded aluminum profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It provides a static holding force of 2200 N at any position along its 800 mm stroke. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is equal in both directions at 1402 N (0.5 MPa), and the second rod allows you to mount a position flag or secondary tool on the opposite end for dual-side guidance. Remember that the clamp holding force is a separate quantity from the cylinder thrust; you must size the holding capacity against your static load, not the pneumatic push force.
This bidirectional enclasp locks the rod wherever the cylinder has stopped, but it cannot brake a moving load. A third G1/8 enclasp port supplies the unlock pressure (0.15-0.7 MPa). The lock releases only when air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced; otherwise, the rod can jump abruptly. The variable air cushion at stroke ends only decelerates the piston and does not hold the load. The integrated -S magnet works seamlessly with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors for position feedback.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 1559 N | 1402 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 2182 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Holds a 2200 N vertical load at any point in the 800 mm travel if air pressure drops, preventing sudden crashes.
Clamps the double-rod securely during multi-stage machining or inspection processes away from the stroke ends.
Uses the second rod end to mount a counterweight or secondary tool while locking the assembly firmly in place.
Step down to a 50 mm bore if your load requires less thrust (825 N pull at 0.5 MPa) and a 1400 N holding force is sufficient. Choose this BSAID63X800-S over a SAIL stroke-end lock when you need to freeze the rod mid-travel rather than just at the extremes. If no locking is needed at all, a plain SAID double-rod cylinder is simpler. Because the stroke is 800 mm, the long unsupported rod requires an external guide to prevent binding and excessive side loading. The 20 mm rod and M16x1.5 thread offer robust load anchoring.
When replacing this unit, match the double-rod layout, 63 mm bore, 800 mm stroke, and PT port threads (3/8 cylinder port, G1/8 enclasp port). The BSAID mounting set omits FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2. The clamp locks only after the rod stops, and safety-critical applications require an independent mechanical backup.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 2200 N. It locks the rod at any position bidirectionally, but only after the cylinder has stopped moving.
The clamp unlocks via a third G1/8 port. You must balance the air pressures on both sides of the piston before unlocking, or the rod can jump abruptly. It is not a braking device for moving loads.
