The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X175S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 175mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 3600 N.
The AirTAC BSAID80X175-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod arrangement and a built-in spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It delivers an equal thrust of 2268 N in both extension and retraction directions at 0.5 MPa. A defining trait of this enclasp mechanism is its ability to secure the piston rod at any position along the 175 mm travel, providing a robust static holding force of 3600 N. It is crucial to distinguish this holding force from the cylinder's thrust: the 3600 N rating dictates the static load the clamp can sustain without live pressure, whereas the 2268 N thrust represents the pneumatic moving force.
Because it is a double-rod design, you can mount a workpiece on one end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end, achieving dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. The clamp operates via a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port, which is entirely separate from the 3/8 cylinder ports. Remember that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke ends; the mechanical clamp is what actually holds the load. For position feedback, the included -S magnet interfaces precisely with AirTAC CMSE reed switches and DMSE solid-state electronic sensors.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 2513 N | 2268 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 3519 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (3600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a 80 mm bore vertical lifting platform at any intermediate height during a power loss, relying on the 3600 N static holding force rather than continuous air pressure.
Clamps the double-rod assembly firmly mid-stroke to prevent deflection while a workpiece undergoes secondary machining or inspection operations.
Uses the second rod end for a counterweight and anti-rotation guide, locking the tool head securely at any point along the 175 mm travel.
Select this double-rod clamp-lock model when an application demands equal force both ways and anti-rotation guidance via a rod extending out both ends. If your load requires less holding capacity, the bore 63 variant offers a 1402 N pull thrust at 0.5 MPa and a 2200 N static hold. Stepping up to the bore 100 version provides a 3681 N pull thrust and a 5500 N hold. Choose this BSAID80X175-S over a stroke-end-only SAIL cylinder when you must secure the load at intermediate points, not just at the extremes. If locking is entirely unnecessary, a plain SAID double-rod cylinder suffices.
When integrating this cylinder, note that the clamp locks only after the rod has stopped; it cannot brake a moving load. Furthermore, the mechanism must be unlocked with balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston, or the rod may jump abruptly. For safety-critical applications, an independent external measure is required. This unit features PT tapered ports, a 25 mm carbon steel rod with an M20x1.5 thread, and operates at 0.15-0.7 MPa. The double-rod mounting set omits FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets, supporting Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts.
Quick checklist
The integrated clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 3600 N. This mechanism can secure the double-rod at any point along the 175 mm stroke, but it only engages after the cylinder has stopped; it is not a braking device for moving loads.
The clamp is spring-applied and air-released via a dedicated G1/8 port. To prevent the rod from jumping abruptly upon release, the air pressures on both sides of the piston must be balanced before unlocking. Human-safety applications require an additional independent safety measure.
