The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X75 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 75mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 3600 N.
The AirTAC BSAID80X75 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and an integrated clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released gripper secures the piston rod at any position along its 75 mm travel, delivering a static holding force of 3600 N. Because it is a double-rod design, the cylinder generates equal thrust in both directions, providing 2268 N of push and pull force at 0.5 MPa. It is crucial to distinguish this holding force from the cylinder thrust: the 3600 N rating dictates the static load capacity when locked, whereas the 2268 N thrust drives the motion.
This model features a 25 mm carbon steel rod with an M20x1.5 thread extending from both ends, allowing you to mount a workpiece on one side and a guide or position flag on the other for dual-side anti-rotation. The clamp utilizes a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port, separate from the 3/8 cylinder ports, and requires balanced air pressure to unlock safely. Furthermore, the variable air cushions at both ends only decelerate the piston near stroke end; they do not hold the load, as only the mechanical clamp provides true position retention.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 2513 N | 2268 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 3519 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (3600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a vertically lifted payload at any intermediate height with 3600 N of holding force, preventing drops if air pressure is lost.
Freezes the double-rod assembly mid-stroke to rigidly hold a part for machining or inspection without relying on continuous pneumatic thrust.
Uses the second rod end for a position flag while the clamp safely halts the load anywhere in its travel during a power loss event.
Choose the BSAID80X75 when an application demands equal force both ways and mid-stroke holding without live air pressure. If your load requires less holding capacity, the bore 63 double-rod version provides 1402 N of bidirectional thrust and a 2200 N holding force. Conversely, heavier payloads might necessitate the 125 bore, which yields 5734 N of thrust and 8600 N of holding force. Select this clamp-lock model over a standard SAID when the load must be frozen at a specific intermediate stroke position, whereas a plain SAID suffices if holding is only needed at the stroke ends via cushions.
When integrating this cylinder, note that the clamp locks only after the rod has completely stopped; it cannot brake a moving load. You must balance the air pressures on both sides of the piston before releasing the clamp, or the rod may jump abruptly. For safety-critical operations, an independent external measure is required. This double-rod variant supports Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts, omitting the FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets found on single-rod versions. As specified, this unit uses PT tapered ports and lacks a magnet for CMSE or DMSE sensors.
Quick checklist
The BSAID80X75 provides a static holding force of 3600 N. This bidirectional clamp locks the rod at any position along the stroke, and this holding capacity is separate from the 2268 N of equal thrust the cylinder generates in both directions.
The clamp is spring-applied and air-released via a dedicated G1/8 port. It only locks after the cylinder has stopped moving and cannot brake a moving rod. To unlock it safely, the air pressures on both sides of the piston must be balanced, otherwise the rod may jump abruptly upon release.
