The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X80S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 80mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 3600 N.
The AirTAC BSAID80X80-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod extending from both ends and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock mechanism. It delivers an equal thrust of 2268 N in both directions at 0.5 MPa, while the integrated enclasp gripper provides a static holding force of 3600 N. Remember that holding force and thrust are separate values; you must size the 3600 N clamp against your static load, not the cylinder's push or pull thrust. This bidirectional lock secures the piston at any position along its 80 mm travel once the rod has stopped.
Because it is a double-rod unit, one end can mount the workpiece while the opposite end attaches a counterweight, position flag, or secondary tool, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. The lock is not a substitute for the variable air cushion, which only decelerates the piston near stroke ends. To release the clamp, air must be applied to the dedicated G1/8 enclasp port after the cylinder pressures are balanced, preventing abrupt rod movement. This -S variant includes a magnet for CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 2513 N | 2268 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 3519 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (3600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a vertically mounted workpiece at any intermediate height along the 80 mm stroke, preventing gravity-driven drops during a pneumatic pressure loss.
Freezes the double-rod assembly mid-stroke to provide a stable, vibration-resistant platform for intermediate inspection or light machining tasks.
The spring-applied clamp engages instantly upon air loss to freeze the guided dual-rod tooling safely in its current position, halting unintended movement.
Choose this double-rod clamp-lock model when you need true anti-rotation guidance or dual-side tooling alongside a robust hold. If your application only requires locking at the stroke extremes rather than anywhere in transit, a SAIL80 unit may suffice. If no locking is needed at all, a standard SAID80 provides the double-rod motion without the clamp hardware. Stepping down to a 63 mm bore drops the holding force to 2200 N and the equal thrust to 1402 N, whereas moving up to a 100 mm bore increases the hold to 5500 N.
This BSAID80X80-S has a 25 mm carbon steel rod with an M20x1.5 thread, offering strong side-load capacity for its short stroke. The cylinder ports are PT 3/8, and the separate unlock port is G1/8. The BSAID mounting set includes Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 brackets, omitting the FB, CA, CB, and CR styles. Be aware that the clamp locks only after the rod stops and cannot brake a moving load; safety-critical applications require an independent external safety measure.
Quick checklist
It uses a spring-applied, air-released mechanism that grips the rod to hold the load at any position with a static holding force of 3600 N. The lock engages only after the cylinder has stopped moving, and it requires balanced air pressure to release safely via the G1/8 enclasp port.
The BSAID80X80-S provides equal thrust in both directions and allows you to mount a workpiece on one rod end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end, ensuring precise anti-rotation and dual-side guidance.
